Samson & Delilah to feature at NSW Reconciliation Conference 2009

The NSW Reconciliation Council will host a special screening of Samson and Delilah and a question and answer session as part of the NSW Reconciliation Conference program in 2009. Writer and Director Warwick Thornton will be joined by Producer Kath Shelper at the end of the film to take questions from the audience. This special event will be held at Circular Quay Dendy Cinema on the evening of Saturday 14 November.

The screening of Samson and Delilah will be just one of the high points of the NSW Reconciliation Conference program with an impressive line up of speakers. The one day conference will include:

  • Larissa Behrendt (Professor of Law and Director of Research at Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning UTS & 2009 NAIDOC Indigenous Person of the Year)
  • Jason Glanville (CEO of the National Indigenous Centre for Excellence and steering committee member for the new National Indigenous Representative body).
  • Simon Sheihk (National Director, Get–Up!)
  • Gregory Andrews (CEO Indigenous Community Volunteers - ICV)
  • Priscilla Brice-Weller (Campaigns Manager, ANTaR)

As the peak reconciliation body in New South Wales, the Annual Conference contributes to the work of the council to progress reconciliation across the state. The Council is a not-for-profit and non-partisan organisation that encourages grass roots people to be directly involved in the process of raising awareness of the issues that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face and in improving relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

The conference will explore key contemporary themes in Indigenous Affairs and the Reconciliation movement including:

  • Leadership in reconciliation and the new model for the National Indigenous Representative Body
  • Grassroots reconciliation and building peoples movements
  • Reconciliation in action in communities;
  • and Reconciliation in the digital age

To register for the conference and film screening, or for more information, please visit the new NSWReconciliation Council website at www.nswreconciliation.org.au.
